Working to improve the accuracy of reference
sources, both online and off!
|
Research Methodology |
|
Additional info on source information utilized by
Internet Accuracy Project researchers can be
found on our source information/references page.
The biographical data
contained at Internet Accuracy Project, has been
checked, cross-checked, then checked again to
ensure its accuracy. It is not unusual for our
researchers to verify each individual
piece of biographical data against as
many as 20-30 extremely reliable sources before
accepting it as factual. This is admittedly
laborious, but results in data that is far more
accurate and precise than most sources.
Source information such as birth certificates,
baptismal certificates, birth announcements,
school records, military records, or death
certificates are frequently consulted. Incredible
inaccuracies have increasingly found their way
into traditionally accurate reference sources,
leading to an unfortunate dissemination of false
data. However, no matter how diligently one
researches, the information conveyed is only
as definitive as that which is supplied. The
need for eternal youth is no more prevalent
than in the world of entertainment. Publicists,
managers, agents, and even the celebrities
themselves alter their ages (along with other
personal data) with alarming frequency. Every
attempt has been made to ferret out those who
claim to have sidestepped the ageing process
by juggling numbers as the years pass.
One may also rest assured that the same
attention to detail has been paid to all
other data including dates of death. Please
note that a few of these may prove inconsistent
with other sources by virtue of the fact dates
listed are for the actual date and time of
death, which is not necessarily the date the
individual was confirmed deceased by a local
coroner or medical official. Also, death
dates and times are sometimes inaccurately
reported in the news, since local time zones
are not always taken into account by the
news media.
An effort to offer critical appraisal of
the work delivered by the many celebrity
entries is not attempted; rather, note is
made of awards received in recognition of
talent displayed in the individual's
particular field. Recipients of major awards
such as the Nobel, Pulitzer, Emmy, Grammy,
Tony, or Academy Awards© (also known
as the Oscar©) are so specified. Those
generically listed as "award-winning" have
been the recipient of at least one of the
following: the American Comedy Award, the
American Film Institute's Life Achievement
Award, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's
Golden Globe Award, the People's Choice
Award, among others.
The film and television credits offered are
not intended as a replacement for a filmography,
but merely as a guide to jog the memory of the
reader. When an individual's career has spanned
more than one generation, an attempt is made to
offer notable credits from both early and late
in life so that young and old alike may find
a familiar reference point.
The author's paramount concern has been--and
will continue to be with future updates--the
accuracy of each individual entry. When
biographical data is found to be completely
contradictory, a copy of birth or death
records has been obtained to ensure the
accuracy of each listing.
Please note that accurate biographical
details become increasingly sketchy (and
birth records nearly nonexistent) on
persons who lived more than one thousand
years past.

Enumeration of Popes and Presidents
|
|
Be aware, some discrepancy exists as
to the proper enumeration of Roman Catholic
Popes. Internet Accuracy Project's system
does not count anti-popes, and considers St.
Peter (who founded the Roman Catholic Church
in Rome) the first pope. Likewise, the numerical
order of U.S. Presidents and Vice Presidents
does not coincide in light of the fact some
presidents had more than one Vice President,
while others had none.

Cause of death
|
|
Note that there is frequently more than
one cause of death listed for individuals
in our biographical library. This is
the result of there often being an immediate
cause of death, such as heart failure, and a
long-term cause of death, such as cancer.
