Charles Tandy

Charles Tandy was an American businessman who served as Vice President of Tandy Leather Company (1947-55), and President (1955-65). He was the founder of Tandy-RadioShack Corp. which he built into the world's largest retail electronics chain. RadioShack was there to take advantage of the major technological leaps of the last half of the 20th century. That success allowed Charles to acquire new companies, and further diversify the company.

His family's business originally offered do-it-yourself leathercraft kits, but Tandy's series of acquisitions in the 1960s created a huge conglomerate with thousands of stores. In addition to RadioShack, the Tandy family of companies included, Pier 1 Imports, Wolfe Nursery Stores, Leonard Brothers Department Stores, Allied Radio Stores, and Color Tile.
