Ruffian |
|
Ruffian was a champion American filly racehorse who held
numerous records.
Ruffian was the winner of the "Filly Triple Crown"
and was undefeated until her final race, during
which she broke her leg (actually the sesamoid
bone -- part of the ankle) but refused to stop.
To the horror of spectators, she continued to
run down the backstretch on the exposed bone as
her foot hung uselessly from her shattered leg.
