H.B. Reese

H.B. Reese was an American businessman and founder of the H.B. Reese Candy Company. He was the inventor of Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

Reese, who had been an employee of chocolate mogul Milton Hershey, began manufacturing his own line of candy in the early 1920s. Initially he offered a wide variety of candies including mints, several assorted chocolates, coconut cream, milk chocolates, dark chocolates, the "Lizzie" bar (made with coconut, butter and honey), the "Johnny" bar (made with peanuts, coconut, butter, and honey), Chocolate Jets, peanut clusters and butterscotch. In the late 1920s, he added peanut butter cups to their candy line. A little more than 10 years after their introduction, they'd become such a best-seller that all other assorted chocolates were discontinued, allowing the company to focus its efforts on the popular Peanut Butter Cups. They would later become the #1 selling candy bar in the world.
