Herman Warden Lay |
|
Herman Warden Lay was an American businessman who
developed Lay’s Potato Chips. By 1956, he was the
largest producer of potato chips and snack foods
in the United States. He was the founder, president,
chairman of H. W. Lay and Company (1939-61), President
of Frito-Lay, Inc. (1961-62), CEO of Frito-Lay, Inc.
(1962-65), and chairman of the board of PepsiCo, Inc.
(1965-71).
In 1961, Lay oversaw the successful merger of
his company with the Frito Company and was named
CEO of the resulting Frito-Lay, Inc. In 1965,
his continuing desire to expand, led him to merge
with Pepsi-Cola. Today, Frito-Lay manufactures
some of the most popular snack foods in America,
including Cheetos, Doritos, Fritos, Funyuns, Lay's
Potato Chips, Rold Gold Pretzels, Ruffles, Sun
