Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall (Camilla Parker Bowles) |
|
British royalty, Her Royal Highness The Duchess
of Cornwall (2005 - present). Camilla was the
longtime mistress of Britain's Prince Charles,
long before they married in 2005. Their
relationship dated back to the early 1970s,
before either of them were married.
In 1973, she married Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles,
with whom she had two children. The friendship
between the Prince of Wales and the Parker
Bowles continued, and Prince Charles
was actually designated the godfather of
their son, Tom Parker Bowles.
Charles' first wife, Princess Diana, publicly blamed the
relationship between her husband and Camilla
for the break-up of their marriage. Whether
or not the assessment was just, Camilla was
vilified as a marriage wrecker in the press,
and by the public. In the years since Charles
and Di's divorce, many have softened their
view of Camilla. Following Princess Diana's
death, Charles' popularity has continued to
rise, and with it, a growing acceptance of
Camilla's place in his life.

Error correction or clarification |
|
* Contrary to numerous reports, Camilla's mother
did not die "October 1994." July 14th, 1994,
is her true date of death, and is the date reported
in most of her obituaries which appeared in many
July 15th, 1994 newspapers. So, as you can
see, it would have been exceedingly difficult
for her to die again, three months later.
